A 22-year-old rescued cat experienced a remarkable transformation and is now thriving. She enjoys chasing sunlight and happily takes up most of the bed.
When Thelma the cat reached the age of 22, she found herself in a shelter in dire need of aid. Her previous owners could no longer shoulder the costs of her care and were forced to give her up. Best Friends Felines (BFF), upon learning of her situation, immediately responded and offered their assistance. “Our hearts felt heavy upon hearing her predicament, and we couldn’t help but feel touched seeing her photographs. At BFF, we have a soft spot for senior cats, so we knew we had to provide her with love and a home where she can live out her remaining days,” they expressed. Through social media, Thelma was saved from her plight, thanks to a foster volunteer who took her in and showered her with affection in a warm home.
When they reached their destination, they were greeted by a skinny and delicate feline covered in matted fur and patches of baldness as she emerged from the carrier. Despite her challenging condition, Thelma remained cheerful and found solace in soft blankets and pillows. Fortunately, she was generally healthy and only required treatment for a urinary tract infection. The matted fur and tangled knots were meticulously untangled, and she was placed on a diet to help her regain lost weight.
“We were able to place Thelma with a loving foster parent and included her in our palliative care program, ensuring she receives all the attention and care she deserves during the remaining days of her life. Thelma has quickly adapted to her new home and has already claimed her favorite cat bed for long naps. Despite being a little slow and hard of hearing, she seems to be in good health and can still let out an extremely loud meow.”
Thelma has finally recovered after a few weeks of rest and her soft fur has grown back. She’s now full of energy, walking with confidence and even playing again. Her mischievous side has returned as well, as she enjoys sneaking up on people and letting out a loud meow to startle them. One could say that if Thelma were a character from the Golden Girls, she would be Sophia because of her sassy personality.
Thelma is quite the foodie and enjoys dishes that include gravy. Every morning, she wakes up from her beloved cat bed with her favorite teddy bear snuggled up next to her. Thelma seems to have a particular fondness for basking in the sun while lounging in her bed.
In order to make it easier for Thelma to move around, the rescue has installed stairs on the couches. Additionally, they have provided her with various soft objects to keep her paws occupied. Thanks to a month of proper nourishment and grooming, Thelma was able to perform her first zoomie.
Thelma has rekindled her love for various hobbies, including playing with cardboard boxes. She finds them fascinating and reminisces about the time when she could tear them apart with her teeth. Thelma also enjoys using the boxes to scratch and rub against, making them a versatile item to play with.
The adorable elderly lady has discovered the ideal spot to bask in the sun while observing the world outside. She still has the energy to pursue the sun and enjoy some warmth. Even on hotter days, she prefers to relax in her mother’s office, but not without her beloved teddy by her side.
Thelma’s weight has increased, and her fur is becoming more lustrous with each passing week. She is showered with affection from her humans, and a reliable teddy bear is always by her side to offer companionship and comfort.
