From a Troubled Past to a Heroic Rescue: How a Fluffy Frenchie is Saving Dogs from Puppy Mills

Today, Stanley is beaming with happiness, although not too long ago, the adorable French bulldog was discovered cooped up in a cramped and squalid cage within a Modesto, California home.

Stanley, a cute French bulldog, is known as Stanley Smiles due to his natural and big grin. However, Stanley’s life wasn’t always happy. A few months ago, he was found in terrible conditions. Today, he lives at Roadogs Rescue, a non-profit organization that specializes in adopting bulldog breeds with medical issues and disabilities. The organization’s founder, Nikki Carvey, believes that these dogs can inspire people to see beyond their own limitations. Stanley is one of the many inspiring rescue stories of Roadogs. In May, Stanley and 139 other dogs were rescued from a small residence in Modesto, California, after police officers responded to a domestic violence call and found the dogs in deplorable conditions. Although Stanley was malodorous and dirty when he was rescued, his sweet personality shone through the grime, and he has been smiling ever since.

According to Carvey of Roadogs, Stanley has become very friendly since arriving and taking a bath. The only remaining sign of his previous neglectful conditions is how he sleeps- wedging himself into small spaces. This is likely because he was used to being confined in a cage. Although he now has access to comfortable beds and space, he often chooses to sleep in tight spots behind the treadmill or under a chest of drawers. While Stanley’s recovery is going well, Roadogs hopes that his story will encourage animal lovers to research where they get their pets from. Carvey emphasizes the difference between breeders who care about the health and happiness of their dogs and “Greeders” who treat dogs like incubators and sell them for exorbitant amounts of money. These illegal breeding operations focus on creating the next rare “It” dog, despite the fact that many of these dogs will have long-term health issues.

Roadogs rescue has reported that Stanley’s previous owner used several social media accounts to promote French bulldogs in rare colors and fluffy coats, selling them for thousands of dollars. The owner was solely interested in making money and did not provide proper care for the dogs, resulting in Stanley spending his life in a cage surrounded by filth. Stanley is now raising awareness about puppy mills and how they exist in our surroundings. Roadogs founder urges people to stay vigilant and report any suspected cases of animal cruelty. The easiest way to ensure you aren’t supporting such practices is to adopt your pet from a reputable rescue or shelter, where many purebred dogs are waiting for a loving family.
